Are You Ready For Sweater Weather? The Autumn Tag

We’re currently in Spring Down Under but we couldn’t resist being excited when we were tagged by the lovely Brittany over at Perfectly Tolerable. Autumn is Jen’s favourite season (Nen’s more of a winter gal) so most of these questions were a fun reminiscence on all of the joys the season has to offer!

Let’s also just take a moment to appreciate the absolutely stunning graphics created by Jenn @ Jenniely. They make us wish for perfectly warm days, hot choc and scarves galore (another of Jen’s favourite things haha).

Hot Chocolate – what is your comfort book?

Jen – Ooh this is hard! Usually comfort for me is romance and depending on whether I feel in a contemporary or paranormal mood it’ll either be a book by Mariana Zapata or Kresley Cole. They’re my happy place! Right alongside my wee obsession with white hot choc.

Nen – My comfort books are usually ones I read as a child and can recite in my sleep. Harry Potter or The Silmarillion are my go-to books – no matter how many times I read them, they’ll never get old for me!

Pumpkin Carving – what is your favorite creative outlet?

Jen – The blog would have to be one of my favs! Canva and I have become best friends recently. Other than that though, I’d have to say crochet. Nen always mocks me for being a little old lady crocheting while we binge-watch the latest tv show we’re obsessed with.

Nen – I used to draw a lot in my younger days, but now I’m more interested in writing than anything else. A cup of tea, a dozen or so pens, and my favourite notebook are pretty much all I need to keep me happy!

Falling Leaves – changes that appear bad but you secretly love?

Jenn @ Jenniely says: This one is a bit ambiguous, it can refer to your life or fictional changes in books & movies!

Jen – WRINKLES. Well, not quite haha. What I mean is getting older. Maybe I’m at the young, newborn stage of feeling ‘older’ (I’m not old…yet) but I like that things are getting harder in life. Change is happening faster than I am accustomed to and I’m becoming more confident in my independence as I learn to adjust.

Nen – Oh man, Jen’s got this question sorted! I’m going to be way less mature about it and say sports transfers haha! Hey, losing your favourite players is ROUGH, but sometimes it’s for the better.

Pumpkin Spiced Latte – something you love that others tend to judge

Jen – Did I already mention the crochet? Someone *cough* Nen *cough* always makes a judgey little comment haha. Other than that though… I have a secret obsession with watching antiques shows. I know, I was practically born a little old lady and will (maybe, hopefully) become more youthful as I age!

Nen – Listen, Jen…it’s a well-known fact that you’re mentally 80, I’m just pointing it out! This is probably a long list. I know Jen has already accepted that I (supposedly) like cheese WAY too much. And I do like Vegemite. I know, gross! The secret is to not eat it out of the jar (looking at you, America!).

Bonfire Night – what makes you explode with joy?

Jen – Omg, I can only choose one thing? When I experience joy I’m usually crying (yes, I’m a happy crier). Things that have been known to make me cry: sappy romances, ice-hockey, American muscle cars (I will legit cry if I see a 1963 Stingray Corvette in classic baby blue – Just ask Nen. She was there!) and movies with Chris Evans. If he dies anytime before me… buy stocks in Kleenex.

Nen – It’s true, she’ll cry at the drop of a hat – I’m usually the Kleenex carrier. Sports is a big one for me. An Arsenal win will put me in a good mood for days. People (Jen) usually take advantage of that to get me to do things (watch Twilight…ugh). Also, good grades. What can I say? I’m a nerd at heart haha!

Fright Night – favorite scary book or film

Jen – Does Supernatural count? That episode with the kid in the water? Nope. Just nope.

Nen – Oh man, I’m a wimp. I don’t have a favourite because they all freak me out. But I do tend to like anything Halloween themed on Disney channel 😀

Halloween candy – favorite thing to eat

Jen – Hands down chicken pad thai. Forever and ever and ever.

Nen – I could fill a whole novel with my favourite foods. I love stir-fry, and Italian, and nachos, and…this was a bad idea.

Scarves – your autumn ‘must have’ accessory

Jen – Um yeah, scarves haha. I literally have around thirty I think? They’re so pretty, snuggly and soft. It’s like someone giving you a constant hug. Who wouldn’t want that??

Nen – I buy scarves for Jen, does that count? Haha, I don’t really wear accessories – autumn here just isn’t that cold for me. But I do wear my rings and sunglasses all year ’round!

Fire – a book or film that burns your soul

Jen- I’m assuming they mean this to be a good thing, yeah? Because in general… burning books is a huge no-no for me! I’d have to say anything with enemies to lovers. The grumpier the better! I’m such a fan of that trope. I’d say it’s my favourite but then the rest might get jealous!

Nen – Oh, this is tough. There are so many…I love books that include a really well thought-out world. Some epic fantasy you can really throw yourself into. I’m also a huge movie geek so I will rave about well-made movies all day long if you let me!

Toffee apples – a book or film that seems one thing but really has a different inside

Jen – This is a hard one! I’m going to have to say Madeline Ash’s books. I mean this with all respect but sometimes traditional publishers put covers on books that lob them in a certain category and it’s wrong. Her books could be taken as fluff romance pieces that don’t stray from the usual cliches but they’re definitely not. They’re unique, authentic and oh-so emotional. I love how she’s unafraid to bend the rules on tropes and write stories we haven’t read before.

Nen – I agree with Jen on this one. I think there are a lot of books and movies out there that have surprised me by stepping out of that comfort zone and trying something new. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but it’s nice to see something new anyway!

As always, we love tagging people but don’t feel obliged to do this if you’re not keen.

As ever, if you haven’t been tagged and want to give this a try, please do! Share your post in the comments if you’ve also done this. We love reading others’ responses!

  2. Awesome post, lovelies! Oooo yes .. HP is a great comfort book/series.

LMAO! I have to agree with Jen on aging but Nen … you’re answer is hilarious.

Okay … you two are so cute ha-ha! I have a few friends who crotchet, so you aren’t alone (though Nen’s comment is cute ha-ha).

OH MY GOSH JEN, ME TOO! I totally cry when I’m happy!! Okay … I just cry a lot ha-ha! And yeah … that question was hard! I love so many things! Dudettes … I cried eating a cake and burrito because they tasted so good … my roommate is a witness … the waitress remembers me as the girl that cried …

I had so much fun reading this. You two remind me of me and my old roommate (who’s still my good friend). Lovely post!

Haha ageing is scary but you definitely don't want to get between Nen and her fav players 😛 I'm glad that I'm not the only one who cries at random things! It sounds like you have a great friendship with your old roommate. It's always nice to have those friends who just understand you 🙂 Jen

  3. HAHAHA Jen, I LOVE it – one of my best friends got into crocheting in the last year & she’s made some AMAZING stuff! I used to knit & recently I’ve been thinking about getting back into it, so we can be grandmas together 😂 Also – crying in every Chris Evans movie, I can totally relate to *that*! 😉
