First Lines Fridays – #2

Hi all!

Welcome to another First Lines Fridays! Seriously… where has this week gone? It’s flown by! This is a weekly meme for book lovers to judge a book by its opening lines rather than by its cover, its author or its prestige. I saw this on Mani’s Book Corner but was originally hosted by Wandering Words.

Rules:

  1. Choose a book from your shelves/ current read.
  2. Open the book to the first page.
  3. Copy the first line on the page, making sure you don’t give away the book title.
  4. Reveal the book.

First Lines:

On the second Sabbat of Twelfthmoon, in the city of Weep, a girl fell from the sky.

Her skin was blue, her blood was red.

She broke over an iron gate, crimping it on impact, and there she hung, impossibly arched, graceful as a temple dancer swooning on a lover’s arm.

Do you recognise which book these beautiful, hauntingly descriptive words come from?

This week’s book is: Strange the Dreamer

Buy it on: AMAZON

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

Welcome to Weep.

This is the book I’m currently reading and the writing style has me captivated. Have you read this book? Share your thoughts down below!

    • Also I meant to say I really loved Strange the Dreamer. It surprised me how much I did like it because I’m not really too much of a fan of high type fantasy!

      • I was hoping someone would be able to guess it! There were a few clues in there 😛 I’m also quite surprised by how much I’m enjoying it as well. I generally tend to read a lot of fantasy but this is unusually captivating ❤ I'm so glad you enjoyed this too, especially with it being high fantasy, that's a high praise (pun intended) 😀
